Clinician Early Psychosis

Based in Darwin

Full time HPSS 3.1 – 3.2 $83,929.23 – $86,282.48 + Super + Salary packaging and 5 weeks annual leave

This position is eligible for NTPHN relocation grant

Introduction:

As a Youth Mental Health Clinician, you will play a critical role in providing effective screening, assessment, and goal-focused interventions for young people aged 12-25 experiencing symptoms of psychosis. This position offers the opportunity to support young people from their initial contact through ongoing therapeutic intervention, following best practice standards.

Flexibility and rapport-building skills are essential, as you will work with a diverse range of young people, including Aboriginal youth, their families, friends, and external stakeholders. Your expertise in assessing complex needs, conducting risk assessments, and collaborative care planning will be key. You will practice from a strengths-based, empowerment-focused perspective, helping young people make informed choices and providing clear referral pathways.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive and supportive work environment. Your role will also involve maintaining high-quality clinical records, participating in clinical supervision, and engaging in community awareness activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice:

  • Provide youth-friendly, family-inclusive services using a strengths-based approach.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, case management, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Deliver culturally appropriate mental health supports, particularly for Aboriginal youth.
  • Maintain high standards of therapeutic intervention and risk management.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and accreditation processes.

Teamwork and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop strong links with relevant mental health and community services.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and a healthy workplace environment.

Selection Criteria:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum tertiary qualification in a health-related discipline and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Registration with a relevant regulatory body (e.g., AHPRA) or membership with a professional organization (e.g., AASW).
  • Experience in individual and group work, including risk assessments and safety planning.

Cultural Competence:

  • Experience working with culturally diverse groups, including Aboriginal young people and their families.

Youth Mental Health Expertise:

  • Experience working with young people in a mental health or youth service setting.
  • Understanding of mental health issues impacting young people and best practice treatment options.

Interpersonal and Organisational Skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Teamwork:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, contributing to a healthy work environment.

General Criteria:

  • Commitment to working respectfully and inclusively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally diverse communities.
  • Adherence to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
  • National Police Criminal History Report (less than three months old) with an acceptable outcome.
  • Northern Territory Driver’s Licence.
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
  • Currency of pandemic and job-specific vaccinations.
