AOD Mental Health Clinician – Locum Opportunity

Location: Normanton or Mount Isa, QLD

Contract: 3-Month Locum

Start Date: April 2025

cmr|Cornerstone Medical Recruitment is partnering with an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service dedicated to representing the health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Northwest and Lower Gulf regions of Queensland. We are seeking AOD Mental Health Clinicians to join the Recovery Centre in Normanton, Queensland, supporting individuals dealing with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues.

Your Role:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and social circumstances.
  • Develop individualised recovery plans and coordinate services to support rehabilitation.
  • Educate clients on coping strategies, stress management, and relapse prevention.
  • Support clients with harm minimisation strategies, including safe-use practices when needed.
  • Work with families to foster a supportive environment for recovery.
  • Collaborate with case workers and peer support teams to provide holistic care.

Selection Criteria:

  • A tertiary degree (or equivalent qualification) in Social Work or Psychology
  • AHPRA Registration for Psychologists; current registration or eligibility for registration with AASW for social workers
  • Experience in providing assessment, intervention, and case management in AOD settings.
  • An understanding of the health issues impacting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a strong commitment to improving health outcomes.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and practice of an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service and the ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Other Requirements:

  • Satisfactory police check
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children and Young People) or willingness to apply.
